Lower Yates St. Victoria BC Canada

07 Yates St

Constructed backlit lightbox with 6″x17″ slides: a whole block of lower Yates St (old district) in Victoria BC Canada

Lower Yates St. Victoria B.C is an interactive object and installation which depicts the idea of interfusing present and past times in everyday life in a specific scene—Victoria’s Old Town District. The whole block of Lower Yates Street is equally represented with two distinctive mediums: static images of transparent films (taken from a film camera—traditional photography) and moving images of video clips (taken from a digital video camera—current technological videography). The materials that I use to create the object with also suggest the transformations of times; the construction safety net and its boxed structure form are particularly a metaphor of an old building’s reconstruction.
